Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the social support, self esteem and health promoting behavior among nursing students.
The tools used for this study were HPLP developed Walker, PRQ 85-part II developed by Brant & Weinert, Self esteem scale developed by Rosenberg.
HPLP and PRQ 85-part II were modified by re-searcher.
The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson¢¥s correlation, Multiple regression and kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney using SPSS /PC+ program.
The results were as follows :
1. With regard to the relationship between social sup-port, self esteem and health promoting behavior, the relationship between social support and health promoting behavior revealed a significant correlation(r=.4536, p<.001) and the relationship between self esteem and health promoting behavior revealed a significant correlation (r=.5670, p<.001).
2. By means of multiple regressiin analysis, self es-teem provided predicted 32.14% of health promoting behavior.
3. General characteristic variz.bles significantly related to the health promoting behavior were character(F=9.06, P005), frequency of exercise (X2=8.318, P005) and health diet(F=8.24, p<.01).
In conclusion,this study revealed that social sup-port and self esteem may be a important factors that can improve health promoting behavior.
Therfore, the findings of this study may provide significant basic data for health promoting program developmant.
